Why the existing wooden dance floor changes what we recommend
One of the main differences at The Abbey Hotel is that there is already a wooden dance floor available, so hiring an additional floor is very much about changing the look of the room rather than providing somewhere to dance.
For weddings, a White Starlit Dance Floor works particularly well. The LEDs add subtle sparkle around the first dance and can make a noticeable difference to evening photographs.
Because the existing dance floor is relatively large, we wouldn’t recommend putting a small starlit floor in the middle of it. Anything much below 16′ × 16′ can start to look lost against the surrounding wooden floor.
For couples wanting a more complete transformation, another option is to cover a much larger proportion — or potentially all — of the existing wooden floor with one of our non-LED finishes.

White starlit
Our first choice for a wedding at The Abbey Hotel. It isn’t essential because the venue already has a perfectly usable dance floor, but the white finish and subtle LEDs give the evening reception a very different feel.
It works especially well for the first dance, where the additional light and clean white background can make photographs feel much more special.
Pure white
If you want to transform a larger area, a Plain White Dance Floor is a great alternative. Without the LEDs, it can be used to create a much larger continuous finish and dramatically change the appearance of the existing wooden floor.

Designed around the room
When adding an additional dance floor at The Abbey Hotel, the relationship with the venue’s existing wooden floor is particularly important.
- Keep the first dance and evening entertainment focused around one clearly defined area.
- Position the hired floor over the existing dance floor rather than creating a second separate dancing area.
- Avoid choosing a floor that is too small in comparison with the wooden floor beneath it.
- Use at least 16′ × 16′ where possible to create a strong visual centrepiece.
- Consider covering a much larger area if the aim is to completely transform the room.

How the setup normally works
- The important consideration here is ensuring the hired dance floor is installed correctly over the venue’s existing flooring.
- Our installation is planned around the room layout and the size of floor you’ve chosen, with the aim of creating a clean, balanced finish rather than simply placing a smaller floor in the middle of the room.
- If your wedding timetable requires installation during a room turnaround, we can coordinate the setup around the venue’s schedule.

The biggest piece of advice we’d give couples getting married at The Abbey Hotel is not to hire a dance floor simply because you feel you need one.
There is already a wooden floor suitable for dancing.
The reason to add one of ours is because you want to change the appearance of the room.
For many weddings, a 16′ × 16′ or larger White Starlit Dance Floor provides just enough contrast and sparkle to make the first dance feel more special. If you want a more dramatic transformation, covering a much larger area with a plain non-LED floor can completely change the character of the room.
That distinction is important when deciding whether the additional hire is worthwhile for your wedding.
